Session 17 – Desiring More of God #3
For a third time we ask “How do we remain in Jesus in the midst of the busyness of this world?” In session 17 we asked our Father for help from the Holy Spirit to remind us throughout the courses of the day to bring to memory someone that needs prayer, contact or witnessing. This should help you to bless others more often in joyous ways. Remember when we brought up the topic of remaining in Him? We talked about how God can seem to shine a light on a particular verse when we are reading the bible. Reading the bible is so important and yet even with all the easy access we have to the Bible there are many Christians who are Bible-illiterate. Jesus knew that knowing the words of God was so important. He refuted the lies of the enemy with the words of God. The Bible says the Word of God is living and active. It also says that Jesus is the Word of God. One translation of 1 John 2:14 says, “…and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one” (NIV). The power of the word helps you overcome the enemy. If you do not have a bible, get one. They are very inexpensive in second hand stores, they are free to read on the internet, there are free aps for your phone, and YouTube has audible ones. We even have the bible here on our website under videos. Your goal should be to spend about an hour each day reading, studying, hearing, the bible. Okay, I just heard you groan and complain about not having enough time in the day as it is. You can spend 1-3 minutes bedside every morning which is the time it takes to read and comprehend one verse, 1-3 minutes at each meal, 1-3 minutes when you go to the restroom, take 10-15 minute breaks three times a day to read a chapter or two, in the evening spend a half an hour after you eat while your dinner digests, and then give God another 15 minutes when you are crawling back into bed. Oh… when we add all that time up it totals 57-66 minutes each day… now that is doable! You just need to be intentional. Exercise 17- Repeat session 8 extending love once again. Then, when you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit ask Him one of the following questions or one of your own that is similar. Father, in Jesus name, please send the Holy Spirit to remind me often to read your Word daily. Father, in Jesus name, please have the Holy Spirit inject thoughts of the bible daily, encouraging me to read. Father, in Jesus name, please have the Holy Spirit remind me to spend time in your word as outlined above. Again, you may not hear, see, or feel anything at this time, but, when you do, be sure to verify and test the answer with the Bible. We know that you know that you have just asked God to have the Holy Spirit interject thoughts, images, feelings, messages to encourage you to remain in Him through His word. Thank Him with a huge smile.
